Beginning Sunday, January 3, 2016
Psalm 115 begins, "Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness."
It's true that God is due all the glory, honor and praise for the ways He loves us and is so faithful to us!
Just a few verses later the Psalmist goes on to say, "May the LORD make you increase, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth." (Psalm 115:14-15)
What a great pattern to live by! God loves us, in response to His love we give Him glory and praise, and in response He gives us "increase" and blessing! Wow!
What is God going to "increase" for us?
There are many ways to answer that question, too many to write down! However, a summary is contained in a great prayer written by the Apostle Paul to a church in the city of Ephesus. Here's what it says:
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Ephesians 3:14-21)
Among the many things God wants to increase in and through us are things like STRENGTH, POWER, HIS SPIRIT, FAITH AND LOVE! And these are just scratching the surface of all that God wants to INCREASE in us!
